Citizens Advice Portsmouth (CAP) has operated since 1930, continuously adapting services to meet community needs. The organization identified significant demand for specialized immigration support and established SAIAS as a separate initiative.

Initially, most Citizens Advice centers provided only basic immigration assistance. Beginning in 2016, CAP developed "Southern Affordable Immigration Advice Service" to address gaps for destitute clients and those needing affordable expert guidance.

SAIAS expanded from a single adviser and two volunteers in July 2018 to a professionally managed operation. By October 2021, partnerships formed with migrant organizations citywide. The Office of the Immigration Services Commissioner approved the fee-paying model in November 2022, enabling delivery of specialist advice at OISC Level 3.

This evolution reflects our commitment to meeting the changing needs of our community and providing accessible, high-quality immigration advice.
